The Midland Rail Heritage Trust is working with the Midland Railway Company (NZ) Ltd and their partner Mackwell Locomotive Co we intend to become a showcase for emerging technologies in the resurgence of steam as part of a cleaner greener and more sustainable future of railway technology.
With the new advanced technology boiler design used in the Mackwell Locomotives the possibilities for commuter rail using steam locomotives powered by sustainably sourced wood fuel are to be investigated.
We are also investigating the restoration of the Uc Class locomotives belonging to the Midland Rail Heritage Trust back to operational standard for use providing motive power for tourist excursions and local operations.
