Otira Tunnel Celebrations - Springfield Station - Saturday 5th August 2023

This is a subtitle for your new post

The Springfield Station Committee will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the Otira Tunnel on Saturday the 5th of August with an open day at the Springfield Railway Station with displays held in the station building from 10am to 2pm.

The trust will be holding a concurrent open day with a display of the operational Ds locomotive and rolling stock. The train will be in action on our railway yard during the day (due to license restrictions we will be unable to offer rides to visitors).

The 16th of February 1923 was the day that the rail operations switched from the old alignment to the "Springfield Deviation" the railway's current depot location celebrations of the centenary on this site have been planned to coincide with the celebration of the opening of the Railway tunnel from Arthurs Pass to Otira that completed the full length of the Midland Line from Rolleston in Canterbury to Stillwater on the West Coast.

(Note: a previous version incorrectly listed the 4th of August 1923 as the date the Springfield depot opened)

Updates from the Trustees

The trustees will be publishing a newsletter on a more frequent basis from now on. Please find attached the first regular quarterly newsletter.

Members will also be receiving an email shortly with an Invoice for your subscription for the 2023 year, I apologise these are very late this year.
Newly implemented systems should allow me to keep better track of these in future.

Well over due update to the website layout and content

Welcome to the new look and feel Midland Heritage Trust Website.

Much hard work behind the scenes has now manifested itself in this brand new website, although some sections are still under construction the trustees are very happy to have this project launched.
